Chimney repointing, flashing, removal, capping, cowls and more
Most chimneys in the UK date back to a time when fireplaces were in common use. While they're a beautiful feature of any property, it's crucial that homeowners take the time to restore, repoint, and repair these old chimneys – or even their newer counterparts. The Fascia Company is an expert in all things roof-related, including restoring chimneys to their former glory or removing them to safeguard your property.
Why repoint a chimney?
Chimneys, like the rest of your roof, are continually exposed to the elements. Year after year of wind, rain, and freeze-thaw cycles, damage the mortar holding the chimney together. If a chimney isn't routinely repointed, it can become damaged, leading to structural problems or, worse, a water leak.
It's hard to know if your chimney requires any ongoing maintenance. Even if your chimney isn't in regular use, it may require repointing, flaunching or capping to help protect the rest of the roof. We provide a free, no-obligation inspection service, identifying any potential damage and evaluating the quality of the mortar. You'll receive a full written estimate detailing our recommendations including full removal or cowls. Ready to learn more? We're more than happy to answer any of your questions. Chimney repair
Repointing is just one aspect of chimney repair and maintenance. Several other issues can arise, including damage to the chimney cap (which sits at the top of the chimney), the flue (inner lining of the chimney), the crown, or even the brickwork itself. Our chimney repair services cover everything from replacing damaged bricks to repairing any cracks or deterioration.
We also replace lead flashing on a chimney, in fact it’s the most common thing we fix on chimneys. Our expert lead work team removes the lead, install new or re use the old lead (if we can). Then they apply a lead seal to adhere to current regulations.
We also offer chimney leak repairs. If the chimney gap is broken or there are gaps in the brickwork, water can seep in, leaking down into your living space. Worse, it can affect the flue lining and other aspects of your property's structure. That's why we always start with a comprehensive inspection to assess the scale of the damage.
We can also fully remove a chimney or cap it if that’s what is needed. Adding a cowl to your chimney can also protect it from the elements and wildlife.
To remove the chimney we discard the bricks, strip the area of the roof, then we lay felt and battens. Finally we tile over the roof to make it fully watertight as if the chimney was never there!
The Fascia Company is ready to inspect, evaluate, and restore your chimney. With more than 25 years of experience, you won't find a more affordable, reliable, or knowledgeable team of chimney specialists.
What Our Clients Say
Your Questions Answered
What is chimney repointing? Chimney repointing is a standard maintenance task for all brick and stone chimneys. It involves removing the old mortar without damaging the existing bricks, cleaning the joints, and applying a new mortar. Regularly repointing a chimney can extend its lifespan and prevent any water leaks. If necessary, we may advise you to replace any old or damaged bricks as part of the repointing process. Once completed, the mortar is cured to prevent any cracks from forming. Depending on the condition of your chimney we may recommend a rebuild or even full removal.
